SHSD Receives State Award for Education Excellence

Steilacoom Historical School District (SHSD) is honored to have been selected as an award-winning school district for the State Superintendent’s Award for Educational Excellence.

The State Superintendent’s Award for Educational Excellence recognizes the 25 top-performing school districts in educational achievement in the previous school year and the 25 top-performing school districts in progress over the last three school years.

SHSD is 1 of just 4 districts statewide that earned both the award for Educational Excellence in Academic Achievement and the award for Educational Excellence in Academic Progress.

“We are incredibly proud of this recognition,” shared Superintendent Dr. Kathi Weight. “This distinction, honoring both high performance and sustained growth, reflects the strong commitment of our entire SHSD community.

From the intentional work in our elementary schools to strengthen early literacy for our youngest learners, to the robust college and career readiness opportunities offered in our secondary schools, these awards highlight the meaningful work taking place in our classrooms every day. Together, we are advancing our vision of providing the best education for every student by ensuring each learner has access to meaningful opportunities and the support they need to thrive.”

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) evaluates school districts for the award based on the metrics of student opportunity and outcomes below.
