WA State Purple Star Award

SHSD is proud to be one of just 11 districts across Washington state to receive the 2026 Purple Star Award, an honor recognizing our deep commitment to supporting military-connected students and families.

Established through Senate House Bill 1346 in 2023, the Purple Star Award highlights school districts who have implemented meaningful, military-friendly policies and practices. Districts that meet rigorous program requirements earn a two-year designation, reflecting sustained dedication to this important work.

To qualify, districts must demonstrate their ability to address the unique educational, social, and emotional challenges students may face during deployments or school transitions. This includes ensuring students have access to the resources, stability, and support they need to thrive, both academically and personally.

Supporting military-connected families in SHSD is a year-round priority, with a special emphasis each April. In recognition, the SHSD Board of Directors passed Resolution 945-03-18-26, designating April as the Month of the Military Child. In partnership with our community, we celebrated with a variety of events and activities that brought together military and civilian families for connection, recognition, and support.

We are honored to receive this recognition and remain committed to fostering incredibly supportive environments where every student can succeed. Thank you for your continued support of our military families and their children!
